Steve Berry was born on 1995 and he is an American author, professor and former attorney currently living in St. Augustine, Florida. He is a graduate of Mercer University’s Walter F. Jenny Han is an American author of young adult fiction. She wrote the summer I Turned Pretty trilogy and the To All the Boys I’ve Loved before Series. Han was born and raised in Richmond, Virgnia. She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later earned her Master of fine Arts in creative writing at The New School, from which she graduated in 2006. Han wrote her first book, the children novel “shug” while she was still in the college. Shug is about Annemarrie Wilcox, a tweleve year old trying to navigate the perils of junior high school. In 2014, she released young adult romance novel To All boys I’ve loved before, about Lara Jean, a high school student whose life turns upside down when the letters she wrote to her five past crushes are sent out without her knowledge. It is set in a future post scarcity dystopian world in which everyone is turned pretty by extreme surgery upon reaching at the age of 16. The novel tells the story of teenager Tally Youngblood who rebels against the society about her newfound friend’s shay and David show her the downsides to becoming a “pretty”. This novel is written for young adults, uglies deals with the themes of change, both emotional and physical. The novel is based on a story that everyone on their sixteenth birthday receives the “pretty” operation. In this operation ugly girls and boys can turn into pretty under special circumstances. There are two operations available that are discussed in the novel one to transform pretties into middle-pretties and another to transform middle pretties into crumblies. Main character that was discussed frequently in the novel is Tally who is also sixteen years old and as the government promises every sixteen year old girl and boy to have their operation, she can also now able to avail this opportunity. Tally’s best friend also had that same operation and motivated by the results of the operation. Uglies receive positive feedback from the readers. The novel has creative slang, unique technical gadgets and also it defines the characteristics of personhood. Some people criticized about the main character Tally that was discussed in the novel that Tally herself is a bit too vague as a character. The main theme of this novel is to discussed over the use of plastic surgery to improves one look. The writer of the novel also said that many girls don’t prefer to have plastic surgeries because they are scared of their results, but Uglies gave them a positive way to think about improving their look by taking support from plastic surgery. Uglies was first published in 2006 and re-released in 2011 with a new cover. Uglies is the first part of a trilogy while pretties and specials and another book Extras are the sequel to it.
